New Zealand Powerball is a game, in which players have the chance to pick and match an additional number in order to increase their Lotto winnings.
The NZ Powerball boasts 13 prize categories, and lottery players need six winning numbers as well as the Powerball to win the phenomenal jackpot.
The powerball use two different machines. One machine contains balls ranging from 1 - 40 and at first six numbers are drawn which are the main numbers for the NZ Lotto game. Then a Bonus Ball is picked out from the remaining 34 numbers to help players win supplementary prizes. The second machine contains balls ranging from 1 - 10 and one ball is drawn from this machine, which is the Powerball. To win the Powerball jackpot players must match all six numbers from the main lotto game first - so in effect, if you win the Powerball, you win twice.
If the winning Powerball number is on the same line as a winning line of Lotto, the ticket holder wins a share of the Powerball prize pool in addition to the prize won from the main Lotto draw.
